Meet The Team!

Tim

Tim is the founding Director of Heads for Trails. He's an England Athletics licensed off-road, trail and fell Run Leader; and a member of the Green Runners. Tim is currently working towards his Mountain Leader and Cave Leader awards. He holds an Outdoor First Aid certificate. He's a regular volunteer with the Spine Race Safety Team, and 'bodies' for the Search and Rescue dogs in his local area. Tim likes mucking about underground as much as he loves running across the tops, and is a member of the Craven Pothole Club.

I was never one for running. I found it hard, uncomfortable, and a chore. I ran because of the way it made me feel afterwards. Then I discovered off-road running. It's a whole different beast! It puts me 'in the moment' and makes me feel truly alive. I've struggled with my mental health since childhood, and been down the usual self-destructive paths but the one constant that has been fundamental to being able to cope with daily life is the ability to take to the hills and run through nature. I like to go far rather than fast, and so I seek to make my running more efficient because that makes it easier, and when it's easy, you're surprised at how far you've come, and you don't notice how far you've got to go."

Richard

Richard is the newest member of the team. He's just embarked upon the journey to becoming an England Athletics licensed Run Leader. He is our map aficionado and a bit of a gear-hound. Any questions about kit, map reading, or navigation - he's your man!

I always thought of exercise as a chore, and something that I wanted to get over and done with as quickly as possible. That was until I found running, and in particular, trail running. I find being out on the trails helps keep my head on my shoulders, reduces stress, and gives me something to aim for if I'm ever feeling low. I moved to Yorkshire to be closer to the hills, and if I'm not out running, I'm usually using my time to look at maps and plan the next route. Trail running always has a way of reminding me, even during difficult times, that life really isn't too bad, and I hope to share the positive benefit it has had in my life with others."
